Veljeni Valas - Puita, sanajalkoja ja kanervaa

Veljeni valas has released May 11th 2008 their second album called Puita, sanajalkoja ja kanervaa. (Trees, brackens and heathers).

Veljeni valas is a Finnish trio, which strongly visual and cinematic music combines the spontaneity of free jazz and expressionistic dimensions of the Nordic melodies and harmonies to the ethnic colours and rhythms. Based on improvisation Veljeni valas has been creating their sound as a result of the collective forging.

Veljeni valas consists of three musicians: Joonas Outakoski (the saxophone), Juha-Pekka Linna (the guitar) and Pekka Saarikorpi (the drums and percussion). The band members are 27-32 years old Helsinki-based musicians, with background of many known Finnish bands and releases.

Puita, sanajalkoja ja kanervaa is the second release by Veljeni valas. The first self-titled album was released in spring 2004, was noted laudably in media and gained good reviews in domestic and foreign market. 2006 Veljeni valas composed and played music to a video installation called Displacements by a Finnish artist Maria Ylikoski. The installation has been on view at Taidehalli in Helsinki as well as several galleries around Finland and Europe.

The Band has been performing around Finland since 2001. During winter 2008 Veljeni valas had a tour in Estonia. Supported by The Estonian Jazz Federation (Eesti Jazzliit) the band played various gigs and had workshops for local musicians all over Estonia.
