PAX ROMANA

Why the name Pax Romana? There are two versions for the story. In the first one a back then 13 year old Mr. Kervinen, having a nightmare finding a good name for a newly based band, saw the name in a history book. He then thought it sounded good and - pang - there it was - in 1973. The second tale again tells about five intelligent young men, after having a deep and enlightening discussion of our values and ideals, thought that the badge Pax Romana and what it stands for - thousand year of peace - would be a perfect name describing what we stand for. Now, which one is true? The first one of course, but it would be tempting to choose the latter. Especially the intelligent sounded flattering.

Yet, the latter tale is still very much true. Pax Romana has always been very much based on ideals - social justice, equal rights for all and society being there for the weakest the traditional humanist virtues. We shared those values back in '70 and looking at them now, they seem to be even more important and actual now.

We are Homo Sapiens, the social animal. Our success as a species is based on the word social. We are struggling with terrorist threats, growing violence, wars being everywhere. Where do these crimes grow up? One of the reasons would be: people left with no future, no hope of having a fair chance to survive and to build a good future to their nearest and dearest - social injustice to put a label to it.

So, to reach Pax Romana, Pax Americana, Pax Europe or whatever, we need to create hope: Hope for better and hope for a fair chance to all. Stories Pax Romana - the band - is telling are about these themes. Surviving, eating, falling in love, making love, birth and death: all the things we small people do and have done, from generations to generations. We all share that mission and Pax Romana is telling about it. And true, Pax Romana was no real peace, but then again, are we humans wise enough to be able to create such. So, the name is just as imperfect as we are. In that aspect it suits us well. We humbly apologise those who feel insulted or displeased. We hope you'll understand our intention is good.
